On June 5th, 2026, McLeod Lake Indian Band will have a general election and will be seeking:
MLIB Custom Election Code, October 28 2013, is the document that governs McLeod Lake Indian Band’s election. The term of the elected positions is 3 years, ending in June 2029.
Regarding Chief and Council, the Chief must agree to reside within the McLeod Lake Traditional Territory or Prince George, the Elder Councillor must be over the age of 60 years, On Reserve Councillors must live on a McLeod Lake Indian Band Reserve, Off Reserve Councillors may live anywhere except on McLeod Lake Indian Band Reserves, and the Youth Councillor must be between the ages of 19 and 30 on Voting Day.
There are no residency requirements for the Trustees nor for the Land Management Committee. Current preparation for the election entails the engagement of an independent certified electoral officer and the creation of an appeal board. Nominations for any one of the 16 positions start in April 2026. As we approach the election period, more information will be provided to the Membership.

Eligibility for Nomination
Any Band Member may be nominated as a Candidate who:
a statement signed by the Band Member who is nominated, consenting to the nomination and confirming
that the Band Member is eligible to be nominated. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by email, text or phone.
- is at least 19 years of age on the Voting Day,
- has been a Band member for not less than 12 months immediately preceding the day of the nomination
- meeting,
- has been nominated to be a Candidate pursuant to the provisions of this Code,
- meets the residency requirements set out for the position to which the member is nominated,
- is not a Severalty Member as defined in the McLeod Lake Indian Band Membership Code, 2004, and
- is not incarcerated or detained in a correctional institution on the day of the nomination meeting.
A nomination must be made in writing and must include the following:
– the name of the Band Member being nominated,
-the office for which the Band Member is being nominated,
-the address, email and phone number of the Band Member being nominated,
-the name, address, and where available, email address and phone number of the Elector making the
nomination, and
-a statement signed by the Band Member who is nominated consenting to the nomination and confirming
that the Band Member is eligible to be nominated.

The Nomination Meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 21st, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Tse’khene Wellness Centre, 68 Ah’da Road, MLIB IR#1, McLeod Lake, BC. A nomination must be made in writing and must include the following:
- the name of the Band Member being nominated,
- the office for which the Band Member is being nominated,
- the address, email and phone number of the Band Member being nominated,
- the name, address, and, where available, email address and phone number.
