McLeod Lake Indian Band welcomes new provincial support that will help enhance local emergency response capacity and ensure community safety for years to come.
Through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF), the Province is supporting 86 projects throughout the province under the Volunteer and Composite Fire Department Equipment and Training stream. This funding will help volunteer and composite fire departments prepare for and respond to emergencies, supported by new equipment and the delivery of firefighter training.
MLIB is among dozens of local governments and First Nations across British Columbia receiving funding. MLIB has been allocated $29,757 to purchase new firefighting equipment and provide additional training for volunteer personnel, critical investments that will help strengthen the Band’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
“Our volunteer firefighters play an essential role in protecting our people, our homes, and our lands. This funding helps ensure they have the tools and training they need to do that work safely.” Said Chief Chingee
Neighbouring recipients include the District of Mackenzie, receiving $30,000 to replace expiring personal protective equipment, and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, which will receive $390,000 to purchase turnout gear and replace breathing apparatuses across its 13 rural fire departments.
The province said it has invested $369 million into the fund since it was created in 2017. To learn more, visit: https://www.ubcm.ca/cepf
