Our deepest condolences to Tsawwassen First Nation during this time of profound loss and mourning for two Elders. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones who are grieving, and with the entire Tsawwassen community as they navigate this tragedy.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, two Tsawwassen First Nation Elders were killed, and two others were injured after a vehicle struck a group of people outside the Tsawwassen Mills shopping centre in Delta, B.C., as community members gathered for activities marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Delta Police said the driver of a pickup truck is believed to have experienced a medical emergency near one of the mall entrances before the vehicle entered the area where people were gathered. The investigation remains ongoing.
As the community mourned, Tsawwassen First Nation members gathered along the roadway, drumming and chanting as the two Elders were taken from the scene. The loss of an Elder is profound for a Nation. Elders are knowledge keepers, teachers, storytellers and carriers of culture, history and tradition. Their teachings connect generations and help guide the generations that follow.
May their families find comfort in the love and support surrounding them, and may the memories, teachings and stories of these Elders continue to live on through their families and community.
